Brendan Woods Architect AA Diploma RIBA


Educated at Edinburgh University and the Architectural Association in London. 

Brendan Woods established his practice in 1991 shortly after working with Wickham and Associates for five years on a range of projects including an  £18 million redevelopment beside Tower Bridge comprising flats, offices and shops, an award winning residential development for Local Authority Housing for the London Borough of Walthamstow and smaller private residential projects.

Prior to that he had worked for Cambridge Colleges Local Authorities, Saudi Arabian Princes, Germaine Greer and Housing Associations and Co-ops in South London and the London Borough of Brent.

Over the fifteen years that he has been in private practice he has designed Shops, Café’s, Office Fit Outs, Farm Buildings and a large number of private residential refurbishments many of which have been published in leading Architectural Magazines such as The RIBA Journal , The Architects Journal and Architecture Today . His work is highly regarded and younger architects such as Sergison Bates and Woolf Architects recommend him for commissions from time to time.

His work demonstrates a commitment to clarity of conception, precise knowledge of materials, great attention to detail and a real concern to achieve lasting value within the client’s budget.

He has exhibited at the RIBA and the Royal Academy.

He has entered many competitions including Armagh Arts Centre, Edinburgh Library, Sittingbourne Library and Museum and Stockport Town centre. He was awarded a ‘Special Mention’ for his entry to Brixton Community Centre Competition.

He sees these competitions as an opportunity to investigate urban issues including the relationship between the individual building and the collective place. He is passionately interested in the way cities grow and change.

He has had many repeat clients including David and Jenny Clifford for whom he has carried out three projects e.g. see Attic Conversion in Canonbury and conservatory in Wales (on his website).

He recently completed a Feasibility Study for a Sure Start Nursery Project at Kentish Town City Farm, a refurbishment of a Grade II Listed House in Greenwich (AT148) and two new rooftops in the Barbican (soon to be published in the RIBA Housing Review).

He is currently working on an extension to Sir Simon Jenkins’s House in Primrose Hill, the refurbishment of a large house in Highgate, a farm near Poitiers in France and an extension to and refurbishment of a Grade II Listed House by John Nash in Pembrokeshire for the Dandelion Trust- a Charity that offers residential Therapeutic courses to children and adults traumatised by war.

He relishes the challenge of meeting new clients from all walks of life.

He has developed expertise in dealing with Listed Buildings, Planning Authorities, difficult briefs and demanding clients.

Recent project values range from £60K to £300K.

His office is situated in Central London  and he employs 2/3 part-time assistants.

He works with a range of people highly respected in their field including Bob Barton Structural Engineer, Matthew Marchbank Cabinet Maker and Tass Argyrides Metal Worker.

He prides himself on being able to respond very quickly to his clients’ requests and to deliver projects on time and within budget.
